About: Kane Cunningham
This painting is a playful response to the idea of the artist painting in the landscape. An abstract figure it stands before an Andy Goldsworthy sculpture in Northdale (North Yorkshire) and is in direct response to a chat with Andy Goldsworthy about his work. Kane said, ‘I was making a video about lockdown and interviewed Andy in Northdale. He was showing me his latest sculpture and talking about the challenges of lockdown when trying to make new work. He got me thinking about my own work and ideas I had been exploring. I did not intend to paint an abstract self-portrait, it just evolved that way and was completely unexpected’.
