Kane said, ‘I spend many days painting in the North York Moors in all seasons and in all weathers. This landscape on a cold winters day is spectacular and unforgiving. This work was exploring the qualities of different found media on the moors, to include limonite (Iron Ore found in streams), peat vegetation and sheep droppings.
‘The iron ore is from the Jurassic period, deposited roughly 150 to 200 million years ago. So instantly there is a time-based element within the work and a layer of geological time that connects to a place and industrial landscape at Rosedale.
Similarly peat formed over 6000 years adds an additional layer of time. The sheep droppings were only days old.’
