Northdale was part of a series of works inspired by the landscape of the North York Moors. Kane Cunningham said, ‘I had spent several days sketching the landscape of Northdale after meeting the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy who was working on his project ‘Hanging Stones.’ I made a short film about his work and so got to know him. He gave me a tour of the barns to see the artworks. This inspired the paintings and a new body of work which were exhibited at the Ryedale Folk Museum.
