This painting was part of the Northdale Series of paintings inspired by the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy. Kane Cunningham said, ‘I had spent several days sketching the landscape of Northdale after meeting Andy who was working on his project ‘Hanging Stones.’ I made a short film about his work and so got to know him. He gave me a tour of the barns to see the artworks. This inspired the paintings and a new body of work which were exhibited at the Ryedale Folk Museum. The image of the artist painting one of Andy’s sculptures was referencing my own semi-abstract style of working and the inspiration of new ideas.’
